33rd Convocation Ceremony: FUTA Produces 3,491 Graduates
...Confers Postgraduate Degrees on 1,806
Activities marking the 33rd Convocation ceremony at the Federal University of Technology Akure, (FUTA) came to a climax on Friday, 17th November and Saturday, 18th November, 2023 as no fewer than 3,491 undergraduate bagged first degree and 1,806 graduates were awarded Postgraduate Diploma, Masters and Doctoral Degrees respectively.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, while speaking during the ceremony said the students have been found worthy in character and learning.
Giving the breakdown of the class of the graduands for the first degree, the don disclosed that “out of the total number, 195 students made first class, 1,510 second class honours (upper division), 1,515 students finished with second class honours (lower division) while 254 made third class and two students finished with a pass.”
While also noting that FUTA aspires to be a world-class University of Technology and Centre of Excellence in Training, Research and Service Delivery, the first female VC reeled out some of the ongoing collaborations with universities in the USA, UK, Germany, China, Brazil, India, and Ghana.
The Visitor to the University, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his address acknowledged the giant strides of FUTA saying the convocation ceremony is coming at a time when the institution is being celebrated across the nation for its recent achievement as one of the best universities in Nigeria and the world.
President Tinubu who also used the opportunity to acknowledge the challenges facing higher educational institutions, particularly universities in the country further assured that the Government will continue to make frantic efforts to address the situation holistically.
He also used the opportunity to congratulate the graduands and their parents while also charging the University to keep up the good work.
During the colourful ceremony, Miss Oluwanifemi Olajuyigbe, a student of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering emerged as the best graduating student with a cumulative grade point average of 4.93.
The weeklong ceremony also witnessed the conferment of post graduate diploma, masters and doctoral degrees on 1,806 graduates.
Other highlights included the Convocation Lecture with the title Knowledge and Research: The Foundation of. Prosperous Economy delivered by. Dr Bosun Tijani, Hon Minister Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy on Wednesday, November 16th as well as the commissioning of projects within the University.
