Hazard Prevention: Marie Stopes International Organization Nigeria Presents Autoclaves Protective Wears, Others to OSPHCDA

As part of its continuous effort towards ensuring a safe and healthy health care delivery in Ondo State, a Non-Governmental Organization, Marie Stopes International Organization Nigeria (MSION) whose vision is centered on delivering Sexual Reproductive Health and Family planning services, on Tuesday 17th August 2021, presented the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (OSPHCDA) with medical equipments and protective wears that will help safeguard and minimize exposure of health workers to hazards in line of duty at their various health facilities across the State.

The presentation which was done by the Regional Communications & Marketing Advisor, (RCMA) southern operations, Ogoamaka Aginam to the Permanent Secretary, OSPHCDA, Dr. Francis Akanbiemu, at their Oke-Eda office in Akure, which is part of Marie Stopes strengthening support system to help protect the lives of her partnering bodies and clients in the State.

The items presented includes 50 pieces kerosene autoclaving machine, 146 pieces of face shield, 30 pieces of hand sanitizers, 480 pieces of N95 face masks, 600 pieces of KN95 face mask, 2000 pieces of ordinary face mask and 200 surgical gowns which is to be deployed in about 100 Marie Stopes supporting facilities within the State.

Ogoamaka Aginam in her speech appreciated the Ondo State Government for its unending cooperation over the years and called for more support just as she reaffirms the commitment of Marie Stopes to continue to close health gaps in the State, saying aside working directly with the government, the NGO also partners with private sector and as well runs a social marketing platform which help distributes some of its products in the State.


In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary OSPHCDA, Dr. Francis Akanbiemu thanked MSION for thinking through in getting those items for use in the state. “This will go a long way in protecting the lives of the providers and clients against infection through proper sterilization and use of those PPEs”. He promised more support from the state and mentioned that the unit will adequately follow up with facilities where those items will be deployed to ensure the equipment are in good use.

Activities of MSION’s Country Programme was discussed following by detailed Operational Channels in Ondo State. At the end of the courtesy call, the official handover ceremony took place in front of the board premises. This involved Directors, staff of the Agency and MSION staff in attendance. The event was a huge success with the help of the State Family Planning Coordinator who oiled its wheels.
