Following the directives of both the Federal and State Governments to avoid large gathering and adopt social distancing towards preventing the spread of COVID-19, the Ondo State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners ( NITP) has postponed indefinitely its monthly meeting just as it urged its members to adhere strictly to medically approved preventive measures that has been put in place by the government.
Rising from a meeting held on Tuesday, 24th March, 2020, the State Executive Committee (SEC) of the institute resolved that the COVID-19 threat is real and used the opportunity to restate its commitment towards helping government in combating the epidemic by strictly adhering to guidelines provided.
In a letter signed and made available to newsmen in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the Ondo State Chairman of the Institute, TPL Prof. F. K. Omole also sympatized with those who have lost their loved ones over the pandemic while stressing the need for members to take precautionary steps by avoiding large gathering, maintaining social distance, constantly washing the hand with soap and water as well as the use of sanitizers.
According to TPL Prof. Omole, the Institute has also approved an emergency welfare plan for its member during the period of the lockdown saying those who have needs for special intervention should officially write for assistance to the Institute through the Secretary of the Institute.
While noting that the Secretariat will remain open during the period of lockdown between the hours of 9am to 12noon daily, TPL Prof. Omole said the arrangement is only for a two weeks period in the first instance.
