The National President of Nigerian Squash Federation, Mr Boye Oyerinde has urged Governments at States and Federal levels to look into other sports apart from football and invest more in them.
Mr Boye Oyerinde stated this at the on going 4th MAMA TUNDE ALASO UNDER 16/19 SOUTHWEST RACKET FESTIVAL(tennis, badminton and squash) holding at Obafemi Awolowo University, ile Ife.
Mr oyerinde said that it is important for Government to look inward and promote other sports the way they promote football.
“The money that will be spent by the Government to promote racket games is just a fraction of what is used to promote football. So, it is therefore important to spend more on other sports and get more value.”
He further stated that youths should be encouraged to participate more in other sports.
“People have made names for themselves in all sports not only football. So it is important to encourage the young ones to look less on football and engage in other sports.”
Mr Oyerinde also took time out to encourage ex professional players to emulate Mr Kunle Adebiyi’s kind gesture by giving back to the society that made them.
“We have so many ex professionals out there who have forgotten their roots. The have forgotten the society that made them who they are. We need to give kudos to Mr Kunle Adebiyi for deeming it fit sponsor the 4th MAMA TUNDE ALASO UNDER 16/19 SOUTHWEST RACKET FESTIVAL(tennis, badminton and squash) and also call on others to emulate him.” Concluded Mr Oyerinde.
