The Chronicles Magazines on Sunday 13th September marked its 7th year anniversary with an annual lecture and award ceremony held at Sunbeth Hotels, Akure where 13 distinguished personalities were awarded for their various selfless services to humanity.
Some of the recipients of the award include Hon. Tayo Eniku of Eniks Omos Group of Company as the Entrepreneur of the Year; Dr. Sunday Owoyemi, CEO, Sunbeth Hotel as Outstanding Businessman of the Year; Mr. Babade Oluwatope , CEO, Topline Petroleum as Outstanding Oil and Gas Marketer of the Year; Mrs. Ogunji Funmilayo Ikujini as Woman Ambassador recipient and Israel Fagbemigun, CEO Nigeria Cable News online as Outstanding Digital Media Expert of the Year.
Others include Princess (Barr) Oluyemi Bajowa, Regent of Ayeka Kingdom as Outstanding Monarch of the Year; Mr. Shola Ilesanmin of OSRC as Outstanding Journalist of the Year and Pastor J.O Akinbodewa of CAC Oke Itura English Chapel, for Excellence in Faith and Leadership Award.
Also as recipients were Engr. Adebowale Marcus, State Coordinator Ondo NEWMAP, as an All Time Achiever, Mr. Victor Olajorin as the Public Servant of the Year while the prestigious Man of the Year Award was given to Hon Olugbenga Omole, Member, Ondo State House of Assembly.
In his lecture titled ” Monetization of Electoral Processes and the Challenges of Political Thuggery in Nigeria’s Democracy: Ondo 2020 In View, Mr. Olalere Alaba said it is unfortunate that those who have the capacity to serve are denied the rights because of financial incapability to maintain party structure and finance their election.
Mr. Alaba who said when too much money is involved, it affects free and fair election further observed that when the stake becomes high, an aspirant will go to any length to ensure the election is won at all cost.
While advocating the need to reduce the reward of political offices in order to attract only those who have genuine interest to serve, Mr. Alaba said it was high time the Nigerian electorate reverse the trend in order to end the era of monetization of electoral processes.
Some of the recipients of the award who spoke with journalists expressed gratitude to God and to the media outfit for the honour.
Reacting to his award, Babade Oluwatope Michael said he was happy to be recognized and that the award will spur him to do more for the people most especially all its numerous customers who have over the years enjoyed exceptional and fair treatment.
In his own remarks, Mr. Sola Ilesanmi said it was high time the government recognize the great job being done by community publishers and as such should give subvention to help them survive the tides.
While also expressing gratitude to OSRC for giving him the opportunity to serve, he said he was very happy to be so honoured within his own constituency.
“I dedicate this award to my family members and to hardworking, tireless publishers for doing a great job in the society”, he added.
Another recipient of the award, Dr Sunday Owoyemi said it was a honour and a gift from God as no man receives anything except it is given to him.
While also expressing gratitude to the publishers of the magazine, Dr. Owoyemi said the award will spur him to do more for the society.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Publisher, Chronicle Magazine, Mr. Olaseeni Oyesusi said with the 7 years anniversary, God has brought into perfection what it started many years ago and that recipients of this years award are being rewarded for their good work to humanity.
