Meet FUTA’s First Female Ph.D Architecture Graduate – Arc. (Mrs) Aminat O. Ajenifujah- Abubakar Ph.D., MNIA

Born to late Late Abdulrahman and Afusat Ajenifujah(Olorogun Adodo family of Isale-Eko in Lagos State) 1975, attended the prestigious St. Mary’s Private School in Lagos and later moved on to FGGC, Bida in Niger State. She was admitted to study Architecture at FUTA in 1992/93 Session and gaduated as the first female B.Tech (1999), first female M.Tech (2004), first female M. Arch. (2012) and first female Ph.D Arch. (2019) Though the COVID made it 2021.

She is a lover of GOD, people and nature, hence her leaning towards Landscape and Urban Design Studies in Architecture (Recreation Studies). She adores equity fairness and justice and applies it to all spheres of life as much as possible.

She is a volunteer with several NGOs and a member of the board of trustees of quite few.

In a chat with Topshotnews, Dr. Ajenifujah- Abubakar expressed gratitude to GOD for making this a reality.

“Indeed, HE gives ease after every hardship and is a promise keeper. I will continue to pray and work hard to be impactful and resourceful in my life and work. It could not have been possible without the structure GOD put in place. Special appreciation to my husband (My Bakies) and the children who encouraged and supported me throughout the course of the programme(s) and the challenges faced, The Ajenifujah family, The Abubakars, F. U. T., Akure, faculty (my supervisors, Prof. J. A. Fadamiro, Dr. (Mrs.) D. A. Ayeni and Dr. C. O. Folorunso), friends, professional colleagues, the FUTA Muslim Community and other well-wishers”.

She added saying the encouragement and support of Arc. M. O. Adegbie Ph.D, who also was conferred on the same day with her cannot be overemphasized.

“She’s the second female. Together, we will continue to encourage other females to break more glass ceilings such as the first female best graduating student from the Department of Architecture Miss. Blessing Chijioke who also graduated at this year’s ceremony”.

She is married to Mr. Olakunle Abubakar (Bakies) and the marriage is blessed with children.

The Department of Architecture had previously graduated Arc. Nike Niwo- Uanzekin (first) and Arc. Funke Otufadebo-Kukoyi (second) through the initial B.Arch Programme.
