Ondo NIS Calls For Upgrade Of Survey Dept., Seeks Govt. Patronage For Members


Members of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Ondo State chapter have made a passionate plea to the State Government to upgrade the Survey and Mapping Department of the Ministry of Lands and Housing into an Extra Ministerial status as obtainable in Ekiti, Lagos, Oyo, Osun and several others states across the nation.
The plea was made by the Ondo State Chairman, NIS, Surv. Johnson Olofinte at the maiden edition of Survey Week celebration in the state held at the International Events Centre, the Dome.
Surv. Olofinte who also pleaded with the state government to patronize its members in terms of real contracts urged the government to make the attachment of Survey Plans as prerequisite for approval of all Building and physical development mandatory as no meaningful development cccan take place without survey plans.
While appreciating the state government for partnering the association in the Irese Road Land Regularization exercise, Surv. Olofinte also called for financial support from the government in funding the roofing of its building which is estimated at about twenty million naira.
The Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in his remarks assured the members of NIS that his administration would continue to patronise its members and will continue to engender robust relationship and collaboration with them.
The Governor who was ably represented by his Deputy, Bar. Agboola Ajayi further assured them that the government will not rest on its oars in ensuring the sustenance of development, while also urging surveyors to play their roles effectively.
NIS President, Surv. Charles Alabo in his message congratulated the body of surveyors in Ondo State for the successful celebration of the 2019 Survey Week while also charging them to operate within the ethics of the profession.
Highpoints of the event was the conferment of award on the Governor. Others also honoured include Surv.Festus Akarakiri, Surv. S. Basaru, Surv. Ademola Agunbiade, Surv.Olayiwola Afolabi, Surv. Ago Fadipe, Surv. Mathew Ibitoye and Surv. Funmilola Fakorede.The event also featured a keynote address by Prof. Joseph Akinyede.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman, Survey Week Planning Committee, Surv. Aje Emmanuel Agboola said the occasion is unique in the history of NIS, Ondo State chapter stressing that the keynote speaker, Professor Akinyede is indeed a big fish that has come to dish out the very best from his wealth of experience.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Geospatial Technologies for National Security”.
