The leadership of Owo local government chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has called for the disqualification of two governorship Aspirants from the area namely; Chief Olayide Adelami and Prince Dapo Adelegan saying that they are not registered members in the area.

One of the leading aspirants in the state, Chief Adelami had already obtained his APC Nomination form of #22.5million naira while Adelegan is yet to pick his nomination form from the party’s national Secretariat in Abuja. Both politicians are kinsmen of the incumbent Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu from Owo local government area.
In a petition signed by the APC Owo local government chairman and his ward officers, dated June 22, 2020 and addressed to the Chairman, APC Caretaker Committee, through the state Chairman of the party, Owo APC said names of Adelami and Adelegan could not be found in their wards membership registers.

The petition is titled, “ONDO 2020 APC PRIMARIES: THE DUO OF MESSRS OLAYIDE ADELAMI AND DAPO ADELEGAN ARE NOT REGISTERED MEMBERS OF OUR PARTY.

The letter reads, “We are constrained to draw the attention at our leaders both at the State and National levels of our Party to the alleged participation of both Messrs Olayide Adelami and Dapo Adelegan in the forthcoming APC Primary in Ondo State scheduled for July. 2020.

“While Mr. Olaylde Adelami has purchased the Nomination Form and Expession of Interest Form of our great Party, Mr Dapo Adelegan is yet to collect his own Form.

“We write to state unequivocally that both of them are not known to be members of APC in Owo local government and we stand to be corrected by this our claim.

“We reliably gathered that while Mr Olayide Adelami is cIaiming to be from lgboroko 2 Ward 3, Mr Dapo Adeiegan is claiming to be from ljebu 2 Ward 5 in Owo Local Government.

“It would amuse our respected leaders to inform you that few of our members who could claim to know Mr Olayide Adelami was when he retired as a Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly and during his Home-Coming, a reception was organized for him in 2018 or thereabout by some Owo Indigenes in the Local Government.

“He had not before now registered or participated in any party activities,” the Owo APC officers said.

In a reaction, Rahaman Yusuf, the Media Aide to Chief Adelami, described the petition as mischievous as the petitioners were forced to signed it at gunpoint allegedly perpetrated by two Special Advisers to the state governor namely Fatai Lawal and Engr Aminu Raimi who are also from Owo area.

Yusuf expressed confidence that the APC Screening Committee on Ondo state governorship election would clear Adelami as a registered and bonafide member of the party at Igboroko 2 ward 3 in Owo local government area of the state.

It would be recalled that about two weeks ago, the campaign organisation of the aspirant, Olaide Adelami had said it has discovered plot to forcefully use the local government and ward chairmen of the party to discredit him.

The organisation said the membership credibility of its principal is not in doubt and cannot be questioned, except by detractors.

In a press statement in Abuja, signed by Barrister Segun Ogodo, the Adelami campaign organisation called on the national leadership of the APC and the presidency to disregard what it described as a ‘campaign of calumny’ against the APC chieftain.

The campaign team insisted that party LG chairmen are being induced to falsely claim that Chief Adelami is not a member of the party.

Ogodo said, “for record purposes, Chief Olayide Adelami is a registered member of the APC in Igboroko 2 ward 3 where he worked assiduously for the success of all APC candidates in the 2019 general election.

“We hereby call on the leadership of APC, the presidency and all members of our great party to disregard this malicious and fallacious harassment coming from a governor who openly campaigned and worked against APC and the reelection bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

“Whereas, Chief Adelami had been at the forefront of promoting party cohesion in Ondo state, a job he started in 2018 when he was appointed state coordinator of the Presidential Support Committee.”

The statement said if there is anyone to be dissociated by the party chairmen, it should not be Chief Adelami, who has contributed much to the growth of APC in Ondo state in particular and in Nigeria in general.

“We reiterate for the umpteenth time that Chief Olayide Adelami is a registered member of the APC, having worked closely with him the governor during his election in 2016 and during presidential election in 2019 and having seen his membership card on several occasions,” the statement reads.
