Vitamin Angels, ROTDOW Train Over 200 College of Health Tech Students on Administration of Vitamin A, Albendazole to Boost Community Health

No fewer than 200 students of Ondo State College of Health Technology on Wednesday, 15th November, 2023 received extensive training on the administration of Vitamin A and Albendazole by a Non Governmental Organization ( NGO), the Restoration Of The Dignity Of Womanhood (ROTDOW), the implementing partner for Vitamin Angels.

The gesture according to the CEO of ROTDOW, Mrs. Olabisi Omolona is to equip the students with the necessary skills that will empower them to add value to the society and boost community health in the state.

Mrs. Omolona who said as a partner for Vitamin Angels, her NGO has been at the forefront supplying supplements to the state primary health care facilities for the use of mother and child to improve the quality of their health and reduce mortality rate, further stressed that the training is a rare privilege for the students and that it is an added advantage for their employability within and outside the country.

She also used the opportunity to thank the State Government for providing enabling environment to protect the health of mothers and children just as she charged the students to make the most use of the training to equip themselves.

The Representatives of the State Nutrition Officer, Ondo State Primary Healthcare Board, Dr. Mrs. Adejuwon while giving a lecture on the importance of Vitamin A to the human body, explained sources of Vitamin A which includes fruits and vegetables to improve eyesight and immunity to diseases.

She also spoke about Albendazole, a deworming drug usually administered during Maternal and Child Health week in the state to reduce worm infestation that retards growth of children.

On what can be done to improve healthy state, Dr. Mrs. Adejuwon encourage high intake of fruits and vegetables as a lifestyle as it boost immunity against diseases.

The climax of the training is a role play session after which the students were individually engaged in practical/evaluation session.

In separate remarks, the Dean, Students Affairs, Mr. S. P. Gbabe and the Head of Department, Community Health, Evang. Ilegbusi commended ROTDOW for the initiative saying it will go a long way in providing the students with hands-on experience on the administration of the supplement.

In a chat with newsmen, Mrs. Adenegan, one of the Heads of Department said the initiative is laudable just as she urged the organizers to make the interface an annual programme so that more students can benefit as they transit through the school.

In attendance also at the event was the Provost of the School, Mr. Omotosho, the Deputy Dean of Students, Mr. Sam Oluwagboyega among others.

The training which is a three day program continues through Wednesday- Friday.

ROTDOW had in the last few weeks conducted similar training at Millennium College of Health Technology, Akure and Coastline College of Technology Okitipupa with the goal to reach 2000 students across Ondo State.
