The umbrella body for all women groups across Nigeria, the National Council for Women Societies ( NCWS) today led a peaceful protest to the office of the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State to register their displeasure over the suspension of the only female legislator in the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Favour Tomomewo.

The State President of NCWS, Pastor Mrs. Jumoke Aborode said women in the state are not happy with recent development where their only representative in the State House of Assembly was placed on suspension.

“It is pertinent to put on record that Hon. Favour Tomomewo is the only elected woman in the Ondo State House of Assembly. We waited this long for an amicable resolution of this matter but we are left with no choice than to bear our mind. We are not politicians but as it is, we do not have anybody representing our interests as women in the House.

Ondo State women say ‘No’ to her suspension. It is a big slap on the faces of all women in the state. For so long, we agitated for women inclusion and now that we have just one, we want them to return her back to the House. Women need representation in the House”, she further stressed saying women will be mobilized to boycott elections if their only representative in the House is not returned.

In his remarks, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Bar. Kola Olawoye said he represents the arm of the executive and that as an internal crises, the matter is better addressed by the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. David Oleyeloogun

Bar. Olawoye also commended the women to conducting themselves in a peaceful manner while stressing that women cannot be relegated to the back and that the present administration is committed to women development.
