Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School Unveils R. Jane Pelly Educational Legacy Building

Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School on Thursday, March 14th, 2024 officially unveiled R Jane Pelly Educational Legacy Building, a 12 room classroom with other facilities at a grand event held within the school premises.

The school principal, Mrs Bolanle Ojoge who said took time to share thoughts on the life and times of the school’s first principal, Ms Jane Pelly who gave all her life to impact students of the school and even in death willed £180 to the school towards ensuring that the good work continues.

Mrs Ojoge who also used the occasion to commend the state government for its immense contributions to the development of education in the state said the building do not only symbolize progress and growth but also embodies the spirit of resilience and determination that defines the school as a community.

She thanked members of the Fiwasaye Old Students Association (FOGA) for always standing by the school and ensuring that the standard remains high.

Giving his remarks, the State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa ably represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, said his administration will continue to prioritize education just as he disclosed that the government’s investments in education is now producing positive results.

The Governor while restating its huge investments in the education sector said the administration has given approval for the recruitment of 2000 teachers into both primary and secondary schools as part of efforts to inject new blood into schools system.

He also remarked that the government has approved five hundred and fifty million Naira (N550,000,000.00) for registration of students in the state-owned secondary schools for the 2024 WAEC examination.”

He lauded the commitment of Miss R. Jane Pelly, who served as the pioneer principal of Fiwasaye Girls’ Grammar school between 1960 and 1973, calling on well spirited Nigerians to partner the state in achieving its educational goals.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to Ondo State Governor on Education, Dr Olawumi Ilawole, said Governor Aiyedatiwa’s interventions in the education sector is unprecedented.

She listed part of the interventions in the sector to include increase in budgetary allocation to education, regular promotion of teachers, and sponsorship of students to both national and international competitions.

In separate remarks, Chief Mrs. Bike Akinduro, the first ever senior girl of the school and Mrs. Kosemani Kolawole, the State chairperson of FOGA shared thoughts about the life of Ms. Pelly particularly highlighting her selflessness in impacting her students.

Major highlight include the official commissioning of the building and unveiling of a special magazine by the Governor’s representative, Dr. Adelami.

The event also featured lots of cultural displays and choreography by the students of the school.

In a chat with newsmen, Mrs. Joke Adegoroye, an alumnus said she came all the way from England to be a part of the celebration noting that the Alumni will continue to support in all ways possible towards ensuring that the standard of the school remains high.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to Mr. Govenor on Gender, Mrs. Olamide Falana said late Ms. Pelly has left a legacy not just for the school but for Ondo State.

Describing the act as a show of love and dedication, Mrs. Falana urged other spirited Nigerians to emulate the act and always give back as that is the whole essence of living.
